For the first time, NEM-Nuovi Eventi Musicali have been invited to collaborate to the programm of the one most important Italian festivals: the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. For this special collaboration, NEM decided to trust in Shostakovich, one of their beloved composers.
"FOR SHOSTAKOVICH" will be held on Tuesday 31st of May, at the historical Teatro Goldoni of Florence (Via Santa Maria, 15).
During the last 11 years, NEM have been having a particular relationship with the twenty-century Russian music. Especially in October of 2006, when we planned the "Masterclass" by Mstislav Rostropovich here in Florence. This event got an official international recognition.
In that occasion, Lorenza Borrani, Matteo Fossi e Francesco Dillon played in front of Rostropovich the "Trio", that will be presented again the next 31st of May, by adding the advices and the memories of the Great Maestro.
Nowadays the three musicians are globally recognized: Borrani is a violin-soloist in the Mozart Orchestra directed by Claudio Abbadio, Dillon is a cello-soloist in RAI National Orchestra and he is a Phillip Glass, David Lang and Vinko Globorak's compositions collaborator.
Fossi has recently recorded with Marco Gaggini the first-ever entire Brahms' two transcriptioned Symphonies for piano, for the Universal.
The programm is completed by the Shostakovich's Fifteenth Symphony n.15, op.141 in V. Derevianko's transcription for piano, violin, cello, percussions, tympani and celesta.
"The Fifteenth Symphony" is the last symphony of the composer before his death; an inner essay suggested in a nice transcription, that doesn't betray the original atmosphere.
Shostakovich sayed: "If they cut off my hands, I will continue to write music with the pen between the teeth."

Since eleven years from their birth, NEM-Nuovi Eventi Musicali are now convinced more than ever create a necessary network of sharing cultural intents and motivations. NEM believe in turning their gaze to nowadays masterpieces, which are a natural prosecution of the past works. With this spirit, NEM take part in the 64th Estate Fiesolana, where they had been constructing their identity, during the past years. Tuesday the 28th of June, at Basilica di Sant'Alessandro in Fiesole, Matteo Fossi's piano and Andrea D'Amelio's voice will perform the "Tribute to Mahler, in centenary of his death" a year later from the touching execution of Schubert's Dichterliebe. Despite the littke attention dedicated to the Lieder music in Italy, specially because of the artist themselves; they will play Mahler's Kindertoten (a composer known in Italy mostly as a symphonic author) and Schubert's Goethe Lieder, based on Goethe's texts. The voice, who will sing the two works, is Andrea D'Amelio, one of the leading experts of the Lieder genre in Italy.
The second appointment will take place on Sunday the 3rd of July at Teatro Romano in Fiesole, where Pink Floyd's "Live at Pompei" and "The dark side of the moon" will be represented. Both the works will play by Max Gazzè, who had already worked for NEM successful productions like "Atom Heart Mother" in 2009 and Genesis' "The lamb lies down on Broadway" in 2010, with MUNFloyd, Nico Gori and NEMEnsemble. The event is part of the 40th anniversary from "Live at Pompei", the 1971 concert performed at Pompei's amphitheater without the audience, with the only presence of the technical staff. The movie-concert is directed by Adrian Maben and stays still today a memorable passage in the rock history for the performance in a empty space, or the use of the audio-visual effects. During this live, Pink Floyd are playing effectively old and new hits and it is a proof of the extraordinary emotional and visual importance of the group. "Live at Pompei" will be repeated at Teatro Romano, a suggestive Roman-ruined temple, to recreate that magic atmosphere. The second part of the event "The Dark Side of the Moon" is the famous concept album released a couple years later, in 1973. The inner conflict, the relationship with money, the passage of time and the alienation problem (inspired in part by Pink Floyd's founding member and main composer Syd Barrett mental disorders; the Shine crazy diamond). With 49 millions of copies sold, "The dark side of the moon" is the most successful Pink Floyd's album and one of the bestsellers of the history.
